Rotary watches

Postby JayKay » Fri Mar 09, 2012 2:10 pm

I've been a fan of this brand for some time. IMO they are one of those brands who does the best "homages" to well-known luxury models. Some would say the are copycats, but then again; they are no worse than others. Here are some of their designs that closely resembles some of our favorites:

The "LS02325/29" (or "LS02326/45 in "gold"):

The "LB02343/07":

The "LB02509/46" (or "LB02506/21" in steel - it also comes in two-tone, which is butt-ugly, and with stones on each side of the glass, the latter is impossible to find a decent photo of):

The "GB00010/04":

The "Editions 700-series":

The "GS21222/01" / "GS11450/08" (officially a men's watch, but at 36x26mm goes as unisex and regardless, one of the best "Tank Solo" wannabe's on the market):

The "CLS00005/21":

And of course, the "LB03340/06" which is the Tank Americaine homage my girlfriend has. Couldn't find any online pics (it's an old model), but I'll take one myself one of the days.

Rotary also does a nice "Tag Heuer Aquaracer/Omega Seamaster 300" homage called "Aquaspeed" - very nice, but more expensive than Sekonda and Accurist's efforts:

So... how about you - can you think of other brands who does good, affordable homages to other luxury watches? Invicta obviously does a few, like the "Pro Diver" (Submariner homage) and the "Speedway" (Daytona homage), but what else is there?

Here's a fun Rotary vs. Omega comparison, the Rotary "Havana" vs. the Tag "Aqua Terra":

I swear to god, it is completely coincidental the two are showing the exact same time, apart from 9 seconds!!! :o

Okay, I know I promised you a picture of my GF's Rotary "Tank Americaine", but I've been too lazy. I stole some from Ebay instead (these are quite rare finds on Ebay, actually, but this seller has two on auction, and several others: http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/time2swap/?_trksid=p4340.l2559):

As new it was quite expensive for a Rotary, about £200 but I can't remember what I paid, it was second hand off Ebay. I like it A LOT, but she doesn't wear it much :(

For anyone interested, British online watchdealer http://www.watchshop.com is having a blow-out sale on the Rotary "Daytona" models. The SS White dial is £125, the SS/Rose Black dial is only £99. Pretty good deals, Rotary is great value.

Another good example of Rotary's tendency to "look over the shoulders" of the other brands... all it basically needs is a date cyclop:

Seems Rotary couldn't decide on whether to make a Rolex or an Omega homage ... so they did both:

Although I generally like Rotary, this is kinda pathetic IMO.
